How to install Tesla custom wraps with Paint Shop

Paint Shop puts a custom wrap on the 3D car shown on your Tesla’s touchscreen and in the Tesla app. Here is how to get a PNG onto your car with the Tesla app or a USB drive, and what to check when it doesn’t show up.

Before you start

  • A PNG made for your model

Each model and version has its own template. A wrap made for the 2025 Model Y won’t line up on an older Model Y, so check which vehicle a design fits before you download it.

  • The right size

Use a PNG between 512×512 and 1024×1024 pixels, no larger than 1 MB. Downloads from WrapLoom already meet this.

  • A simple file name

Keep the name to 30 characters or fewer, using only letters, numbers, spaces, underscores and dashes.

  • Up-to-date software

Custom wraps need recent car software. Uploading from your phone needs Tesla app v4.59.0 or later.

Install with the Tesla app

The quickest way, with no USB drive needed.

  1. Download the wrap PNG to your phone.

  2. Open the Tesla app (v4.59.0 or later) and go to Creations → Wrap → Upload.

  3. Choose the PNG. The app sends it to your car.

Install with a USB drive

Use this if the app option isn’t available for your car, or to load several wraps at once.

  1. Format a USB drive as exFAT or FAT32 (MS-DOS FAT on a Mac).

  2. Create a folder named Wraps at the top level of the drive, not inside another folder.

  3. Copy your PNG files into the Wraps folder.

  4. Plug the drive into a USB port in your car.

Apply the wrap in Paint Shop

In the car, open Toybox → Paint Shop and select the Wraps tab. Pick your wrap and it appears on the 3D car straight away. You can switch wraps or go back to a paint colour at any time.

Troubleshooting

My wrap doesn’t show up in Paint Shop. What should I check?

Check that the file is a PNG between 512×512 and 1024×1024 pixels and under 1 MB, and that its name only uses letters, numbers, spaces, underscores and dashes. For USB, it must sit in a folder named Wraps at the top level of the drive. Updating your car’s software can also help.

Why does the design look stretched or out of place?

The PNG was most likely made for a different model or version. Templates differ between, for example, the older Model Y and the 2025 Model Y. Download a design made for your car’s version.

Which Teslas support Paint Shop wraps?

WrapLoom has templates for Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck, across several years and versions. Whether Paint Shop is available depends on your car and its software version.

How do I remove a wrap?

Open Toybox → Paint Shop and pick a paint colour instead of a wrap. The car on your screen goes back to its usual look.

Does a Paint Shop wrap change my car’s real paint?

No. It only changes how your car looks on the touchscreen and in the Tesla app. Your real paint is untouched.
